TSV Westerland

Most successful national badminton tournament in years

About a week ago, the time had finally come again: At the first tournament of the year, seven young athletes from Sylt were able to compete with the best players in Schleswig-Holstein at the badminton state ranking list in Satrup.

On Saturday, February 26, the individual games were on the program. Jelte Topp finished eighth in the U15 age group at his first tournament. Jannis Dorow had the misfortune to lose his first round match with 17:21 and 19:21 in the strong AK U17. After three commanding victories, he finally finished ninth. In the AK U13 two Sylt talents started with Summer Heuwind and Nola Bayerlein. In the end, Nola finished fifth and Summer Heuwind even managed an excellent second place. The silver medal is the first individual medal for TSV in years.

On Sunday there was another rain of medals in the doubles competition. Vianne Sach and Lana Krull won the bronze medal in the U15 doubles. Nola Bayerlein won silver with her partner Fiona Behrndsen (Schleswig 09) and the Sylt doubles Summer Heuwind and Jana Olesen even won the state title in the AK U13. Coach Torsten Lickfers was extremely satisfied with the performance of TSV Westerland and is already looking forward to the next tournaments. During the summer holidays, a badminton camp with national coach Peter Zsoldos will take place, for which many people from Sylt have already registered. Until the home tournament, the district championships, which take place on 18. and June 19 at the Tinnum Sports Centre, the young athletes still have plenty of time to train.
