New Year’s Eve Run 2022

Most of them start implementing their New Year’s resolutions on January 2 at the earliest. It’s a little different at TSV Westerland, where winter fat is traditionally tackled shortly before the turn of the year – 13 hours before, to be exact.

On December 31 at 11 a.m., the New Year’s Eve run will start again this year – for the 45th time. It is organized by TSV Westerland in cooperation with the Insel Sylt Tourismus-Service and with the kind support of Energieversorgung Sylt.

At 11.00 a.m., the chairman of TSV Westerland, Hans Wilhelm Hansen, welcomes the players and spectators to the Sylt Stadium for what is probably the last Sylt sporting event of the year. Afterwards, the youngest athletes, with the support of their parents and guests, start their Bambino run one or two laps, i.e. 400 or 800 meters, on the cinder track. As a reward, there is a free medal, a certificate and soft drinks.

Afterwards, at 11.30 a.m., the starting signal will be given for a joint stadium round of the runners and Nordic walkers, staggered according to running distances, over 15 minutes around the southern forest (1600 meters), 30 to 35 minutes in the direction of Rantum around the Dikjen Deel car park (approx. 6 kilometers) or around the Rantum fire station (11 kilometers). Experienced runners and walkers in bright yellow dresses set the course and pace.

The focus of the New Year’s Eve run is always on social togetherness, shared sporting experiences and direct contact with the moody December weather. After the run, Berliners, punch, juices and mineral water will be served in the team hut. Every participant is a winner and receives a certificate free of charge. If you want, you can buy a New Year’s Eve Run medal as a souvenir for 5 euros. The proceeds and donations will benefit the sports club’s extensive work with children and young people.

Registration for the New Year’s Eve run is only possible online at www.tsv-westerland.de/silvesterlauf/. The registration deadline is December 23rd. Changing facilities will be available to the active players on the day of the event in the multi-purpose building of the Sylt Stadium, but unfortunately showers will not be available. There are plenty of parking spaces on the Schützenplatz.
