Competition instead of children’s masquerade

Last year, hundreds of small cowboys, pirates and witches had to refrain from romping through the Old Kursaal on Rathausplatz to party music. This year, too, the children’s masquerade of TSV Westerland, which usually takes place in February, unfortunately has to be cancelled due to corona. As an alternative, as in the previous year, there will be a competition for children up to the age of ten, which is intended to console over the cancellation: “The children’s masquerade is one of the most popular events of the whole year for parents and children,” says the chairman of the association, Hans-Wilhelm Hansen. “That’s why it’s important to us not to delete the event from the calendar without replacement.”

At the 2021 photo competition, TSV received lots of great photos of parents and children in disguise, who were then able to look forward to great prizes. This year, the association has gone one step further and found numerous supporters, so that this time there is much more to win: For the little ones up to the age of six, the main prizes are a balance bike and a scooter, donated by the Sylt children’s shop “Michel & Ida”. In the age group of seven to ten years, the Sylt Cycling Centre is donating a children’s mountain bike of the “Giant” brand with 20-inch wheels. There are also numerous other prizes to be won, including family tickets for the Forces of Nature Adventure Centre, the Sylter Welle and the Tinnum Zoo.

But not only has the number of prizes increased, there are also more opportunities to participate this time. The task: Show us what you would have dressed up as for the children’s masquerade this year. How, that’s up to you: Paint us a picture, take a picture of you in costume or make a short video in which you dance, sing or show us your acting skills – the more creative, the better. You can either send us the results by e-mail to info@tsv-westerland.de , or you can post them with the hashtag #tsvwesterland on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. The closing date for entries is Friday, 11 February. The most creative posts and submissions will be chosen by the TSV board and awarded with the main prizes. For all other prizes, the decision will be made by lot. The winners will be announced on the TSV Westerland website and in the press.
