Last weekend, the badminton juniors of TSV Westerland went to Itzehoe for the second badminton ranking tournament at state level. Due to injuries, illness and private commitments, only two of the club’s racket acrobats were able to participate in the tournament. But the two did their job all the better.
In the clash of the best young players in Schleswig-Holstein, Dominik Matejka had a bit of a draw in the U13 age group and met strong opponents right from the start. However, he showed a committed performance and was able to improve from game to game over the course of the tournament. With fifth place, he finished the tournament excellently.
In the prestigious singles of the U17 age group, Jannis Dorow finally made it onto the podium again. With third place, he achieved his best ranking at the state level to date. In the strong field of participants, thrilling ball rallies and exciting games were offered. In the semi-finals, Jannis finally had to deal with the number one seeded Thorben Klett from Kisdorf. With 13:21, 22:20 and 16:21, the game was only narrowly lost after a great fight.
In the match for third place, however, the Sylt talent showed his best performance of the day after initial problems and won the well-deserved bronze medal with 7:21, 21:10, 21:13. On June 18/19, the next big highlight for the Sylt badminton juniors will be when TSV Westerland will host the district ranking tournament at the Tinnumer Sports Center.
