Last weekend, the best junior badminton players in Schleswig-Holstein met in Schleswig for the state ranking tournament. Seven Sylt badminton acrobats also took part.
On Saturday the tournament started with the singles U11 and the mixed. Nola Bayerlein, the youngest participant of TSV Westerland, was able to make it onto the podium for the first time with third place in the U11 girls‘ singles. But at that time it was not yet foreseeable that this day would have a golden end for her.
All in all, the Sylt team offered a great performance. Henrike Böhm and Jannis Dorow also made it onto the podium in the strong Mixed U17 and were happy about a bronze medal. Vianne Sach finished an excellent seventh in the combined U13/U15 mixed. In her traditional age group (U13) she would even have won the silver medal.
After the award ceremony, the doubles competitions continued. Both Henrike Böhm and Jannis Dorow won bronze here. The Sylt U13 pairing Lana Krull and Summer Heuwind even finished second. This was already a sensationally good result for TSV.
Truly historic, from an island point of view, was finally achieved by Nola Bayerlein, who put the icing on the cake of the already successful day: She surprisingly won the title in the U11 girls‘ doubles with her partner Fiona Berndsen (TSV Schleswig 09). The team improved from game to game and put in a great performance, which was rewarded with the national title and a gold medal.
This makes her the next state winner of TSV Westerland after Cosmea Fröhlich, who won gold in 2015. All in all, it was an extraordinarily successful day for the islanders. A record of five bronze, two silver and one gold has not been seen for a long time. Coach Torsten Lickfers was particularly pleased with the positive development of the young badminton players.
On Sunday, the national winners in the singles of the U13-U19 age groups were to be played. With a win in the first round match, Jannis Dorow was the only „unseeded“ in the strong U17 field to reach the quarterfinals. After a narrow defeat, he finally finished seventh here.
Henrike Böhm narrowly missed the podium in a very good fourth place and was thus the best islander of the day. The Sylt U13 also did well. For Vianne Sach (7th), Lana Krull (6th) and Summer Heuwind (5th), it wasn’t quite enough for something bigger on this day. Arthur Werner finished fifth in his first state tournament with a positive record of one defeat and two victories.
