Sascha Schlesier becomes North German Champion in javelin throw

At the North German Championships in Berlin, the Sylt native won the title in the over 35 age group. With 49.60 m he took the undisputed 1st place.

For a long time it was unclear whether the javelin throw competition at the North German Championships in Berlin could take place at all due to the weather conditions. Finally, the organizer gave the green light. For years, an athlete from TSV Westerland was there again. Sascha Schlesier had only been able to train on the island under difficult conditions and still prepared meticulously. There was also a lot of tension before the first competition this year and his first competition after a break of almost 20 years. This was evident in the first attempt, which unfortunately was invalid. In the second attempt, the athlete managed a throw at 49.60 m. In the third attempt, the javelin flew over the 50 m, but unfortunately it was considered invalid. Finally, the Sylt put everything into the last throw, and the javelin flew to the 60 m mark. Unfortunately, he was unable to slow down the acceleration in time and stepped just over. Unfortunately, this very good throw was also invalid. In the end, however, the 49.60 m was enough for the victory and the North German championship title for TSV Westerland in the AK Ü35. In the overall field, he would have finished in an excellent fifth place.

The next highlight is now at the end of March, when the Sylt native travels to Torun in Poland for the World Championships and competes for a medal there.
