Nola Bayerlein wins silver at the Flora Cup

Germany’s largest badminton tournament, the Flora Cup, celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and attracted over 500 young players from all over Germany to Elmshorn, where they played in a total of seven halls. For seven Sylt badminton players, the high-class tournament also offered a lot of great experience on and off the court. Smilla Lickfers, the youngest participant of TSV Westerland, had to start in the U13C age group. Despite the age difference, the eight-year-old was able to score some good games and finished an excellent seventh.

Jannis Dorow started in the strong U19 field. After a defeat against the eventual finalist and two victories, it was unfortunately already over in the preliminary round. However, ninth place in a field with some players from the top 50 of the German ranking was a very good result. Lana Krull and Jelte Topp could not survive the group stage in the AK U15B as well as Alea Doßmann in the AK U17C, but also took a lot of experience from the games.

Nola Bayerlein was the most successful athlete from Sylt at the Flora Cup and fought her way to the final of the AK U13B. Although she was narrowly defeated here, she was very satisfied with second place. On Sunday, the doubles continued: Arthur Werner and Jelte Topp finished ninth (U15B). Alea Doßmann and Lana Krull were even able to reach fourth place in the AK U17C, while Nola Bayerlein and her partner Fiona Berndsen finished fifth (U15C).

Nola Bayerlein in second place next to Katharina Ernst (1st place) and Fiona Berndsen (3rd place).

The junior badminton players continue to train on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the gymnasium. Newcomers are welcome. At the beginning of June, the next tournament is on the agenda with the first national ranking in Molfsee.
